Trash Moon Hootenanny
Trash Moon Collective Medieval Hootenanny IV
Join the Trash Moon Collective for its 4th annual Medieval-Themed Hootenanny on Friday, November 13th at the Commonwealth Room! What started as a collaborative, antic-filled fundraiser to raise money for a dear friend in our bluegrass community, is now an annual celebration of Salt Lake’s bluegrass, old time, and folk music community. From musicians to jammers, dancers, river boaters, organizers, adventure-seekers, and music lovers, we want to celebrate and welcome you all.
The evening will include performances from an all-star cast of musicians, featuring members from some of the hottest bluegrass and ‘grass adjacent bands in town – Pixie and the Partygrass Boys, the Pickpockets, Pompe n Honey, Hot House West, Pearly Blue, Utah Folk Orchestra, & the Brine Shrimps. Musicians will come together one-night only for a shred-tastic collaboration. Think Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, but with more color, more costumes & swords, more dancing, and more of a twang that can only come from musicians who play hard in the mountains and on the stage.
Ticket sales will go to the performing artists and to support the Trash Moon Collective, an organization that is a hub for bluegrass, old time, and folk music in Salt Lake City. The Collective organizes shows, jams, dances, and workshops to build and support musicians and community music. What is community music? Well, back before big stages and Taylor Swift, music was the fabric of community. Musicians played local dances, music happened on porches, kids learned fiddle from their neighbors, music was for everyone. And we believe that making music a more accessible part of people’s lives builds relationships, strengthens communities and, well, makes life more fun.
Trash Moon events include house concerts and listening-room shows partnered with Neighborhood Hive; Honky Tonks and Square Dances at Fisher Brewing; a weekly bluegrass and old time jam at Woodbine Food Hall; weekly Bluegrass Night at Gracie’s; weekly newsletter with tune of the month and local event lists; and much more.
Join us before the show at 7-8pm to learn more about our community partners: Acoustic Music, OFOAM Festival, Neighborhood Hive, TedFest Festival, Mo. Banjo Co, and Holiday River Expeditions. AND, don’t forget to take part in our opportunity drawing!
Got that social media ennui? Looking for community? Always wanted to learn fiddle or mandolin? Feel like the world is imploding? Come to the Trash Moon Collective Medieval Hootenanny on November 13th at the Commonwealth Room to learn more, don your finest Medieval garb, make new friends, see an amazing show, support your bada$$ local scene, and join our community.
